With two speakers plus a subwoofer putting out a total of 540 watts (RMS) of power the Sony MHCEC909iP is also up to bringing your parties to life and with the level of quality and range of features on offer, at around just $150 this system is great value.

Whether you listen to classical music or heavy metal, the Sony MHCEC909iP Mini Hi-Fi Shelf System will have your music sounding its best. Bass heads will love the subwoofer and Bass Boost but if you want to you, can turn off Bass Boost and even the sub for a more, standard level of bass output for those less intense music moments.

Pros:
  • Ideal for iPod/iPhone
  • Excellent quality sound and bass performance
Cons:
  • Can't modify equaliser presets
  • No headphone output connection

Each of the pair of two-way, bass reflex speakers puts out 180 watts via a 1.5 inch tweeter and 6.3 inch woofer and give powerful, accurate and responsive bass performance. The 7.9 inch passive subwoofer adds ultra-low bass and another 180 watts of output, while the DSGX (Dynamic Sound Generator X-tra) bass boost function allows even more dynamic sound to be generated for when you really want to shake things up. The Sony MHCEC909iP also has seven EQ (equalizer) presets like Rock, Jazz, Pop, Techno, Classical and so on to optimize the sound for different types of music. With an iPod/iPhone compatible flip out dock the Sony MHCEC909iP is obviously geared towards playing music from those devices and will even charge them. However, it also has a single disk tray and stereo input. Grab a conventional music CD or burn a bunch of your favorite mp3's to CD-R and CD-RW disk or connect any other mp3 player or suitable input source using the stereo input and play away. Be aware though there is no USB input or headphone output connector.

For a change of pace or some variety the Sony MHCEC909iP also has a built-in AM/FM digital tuner to listen to music or talk-back radio stations. Save your favorites using presets - up to ten AM or twenty FM stations, and use the one-line amber LCD display to keep track of what's going on. The included, multifunctional remote control provides iPod playlist navigation and basic control and can control CD player, radio tuner and iPod/iPhone playback. The Sony MHCEC909iP also has a clock, plus sleep and wake timers. The sleep timer lets you fall asleep to music and will work even without setting the clock. The wake timer allows you to wake up to CD, FM/AM reception, iPod or iPhone at a preset time.

Also included with the Sony MHCEC909iP are an AM loop antenna, an FM wire antenna, 12 (non-slip) speaker pads and written instructions making it quick and easy to get it set up and start using it.

A sleek, clean and modern looking system with power and performance, that would even put some much higher priced systems to shame. Providing superb sound quality from clear dialog to window rattling bass without audible distortion, all in a compact unit the Sony MHCEC909iP Mini Hi-Fi Shelf System is easy to recommend especially at such a great price.
